The Ibadan community, under the aegis of the Eyin Grammar Community Development Association, has called on the Oyo State Government to provide a conducive learning environment and adequate security in schools within the area.
The Chairman of the association, Alhaji Mukaila Ajibike, made the appeal during a press briefing in Ibadan on Wednesday, where he commended the achievements of Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration.
He, however, emphasised the need for the government to focus attention on certain areas, particularly the provision of adequate security to curb recurring cases of violence in some schools.
Ajibike cited the broken perimeter fence between Ibadan Grammar School and Anglican Grammar School, Molete, which, according to him, has become an access route for criminals terrorising residents.
“We are always scared to return home from work because we don’t know what we are going to encounter on the way.
“Most residents have been attacked with dangerous weapons by hoodlums masquerading as students.
“Hence, our appeal to the government and relevant security agencies to provide adequate security through the deployment of personnel to monitor the activities of the students and the community.
“There is also a need for regular security patrols, especially during school hours,” he said.
Beyond the security situation, Ajibike also urged the government to address the deplorable condition of roads in the community.
He assured that the Eyin Grammar Community remains peace-loving and committed to supporting government efforts to maintain law and order while fostering development.
