…Urge APC to Review Decision
Youth groups in Remo North Local Government Area of Ogun State have rejected the consensus speculation candidature of Hon. Adebiyi Adeleye as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the State House of Assembly, citing concerns over party unity, leadership style, and electoral viability.
This was disclosed today at a press conference by the Coordinator of Youth For Good Governance and Leadership, Ambassador Adewale Ibrahim, on behalf of Remo North youths in conjunction with Youth For Better Nigeria.
Ambassador Adewale explained that their opposition was not driven by political rivalry but by what they described as a genuine concern for the future of the constituency and the stability of the APC in the area.
He alleged that Adeleye’s past actions had contributed to internal crises within the party, including incidents that reportedly led to the assault of two former local government party chairmen, Chief Sofodu and Chief Adebambo.
According to him, such conduct has deepened divisions at the grassroots level.
The youth coordinator described Adeleye as an “agent of destabilization,” accusing him of consistently undermining party cohesion and weakening the APC’s structure in Remo North.
He also questioned his electoral strength, noting that despite securing the party’s ticket in the previous election, he failed to win in his own polling unit. This, they said, raises concerns about his popularity and acceptability among voters.
Ambassador Adewale also criticized what it termed his “undue ambition,” alleging that Adeleye seeks to dominate both party leadership and candidacy positions, a move they said contradicts democratic principles and threatens internal balance within the party.
He also accused him of showing disrespect to party elders and disregarding established procedures, actions they believe have alienated key stakeholders and damaged trust within the APC.
The youths coordinator warned that the controversies surrounding Adeleye could negatively impact the party’s image and electoral prospects, not only in Remo North but across Ogun State.
Ambassador Adewale therefore, called on the leadership of the APC in Ogun State, including the State Chairman and the National Executive Council, to reconsider the consensus decision and heed the voice of party members at the grassroots.
“We urge the party leadership to listen to the youth and the wider membership who desire leadership that promotes unity, respect, and progress,” he read.
